Kup Custom Transformers Animated Generation One Figure by Shinobitron

Shinobitron pays homage to a classic figure from the 1980's and finds a new way to use the Optimus Prime mold from the latest series with his Custom Transformers Animated Kup figure. What a great idea to use Prime's animated figure as a base for this one as the vintage Kup takes on the almost the same design. The head sculpt is updated and reflects Kup's age in a more dignified and refined look. At first glance, the head looks like it could belong on top of Panthro from the Thundercats but maybe Shinobitron will make another crossover figure in the future (a Thundercat/Transformers crossover is not likely but I would not put it past him...he has made some crossover figures in the past with his latest being a Custom Batman/Transformers crossover I wrote about a few weeks ago but I digress). The colors are spot on as this Kup has a nice powder blue like the classic figure. I have said it before and I will say it again, Shinobitron is the Man when it comes to G1 Customs and he is always thinking a step ahead and seeing what he can make and is not afraid of a challenge.

Snake Eyes Custom Medicom RAH 12 Inch GI Joe Figure by SixIceCubes

Prowler Custom Marvel Legends Figure by Loosecollector

Straight from the pages of the Amazing Spider Man comic, where he made his debut, comes Loosecollector's Custom Marvel Legends Prowler figure. The paint aps gives this figure depth while providing a comic accurate likeness to Prowler. The deep green body really makes the emblem stand out on his chest and the the shade of purple that was used really compliments the rest of the figure. One aspect of this figure that is noteworthy is the head sculpt. The way that the head was crafted and painted, it appears that Prowler can take on different looks depending on the light and how the head is angled. The mouth is perfectly positioned and the eyes are neutral, making the figure able to be interpreted several different ways.

Custom Punch Counterpunch Transformers Universe Genration One Figure Jin Saotome

Jin Saotome has captured the classic feel of a 1980's Transformers favorite with his Custom Punch Counterpunch G1 Transformers Universe figure. Part of being able to capture that feel are the colors used to create this figure. The yellows and the blues are dead on and the most unique aspect about this custom is that it is essentially two figures in one. Jin goes on to describe more about this unique custom:

"Punch is an Autobot, Counterpunch is a Decepticon, but they're the same being! Confused? Not as much as the Decepticons will be when this Doublespy infiltrates their ranks. Punch/Counterpunch can be transformed into two completely different robots, just like his G1 form could. Just a few extra twists and turns will change Punch into his alter-ego Counterpunch. He (they?) have been painted with rich semigloss colors, bright highlights, and sealed to protect against wear."

Commander Cody Custom Lego Star Wars Minifig by Rurisk

One of my favorite scenes in Star Wars Revenge of the Sith is when the clones descend on to Utupau and a gigantic battle ensues. Rurisk has captured the leader who took the troops into battle with his Custom Lego Star Wars Commander Cody minifig. What is cool about this custom is that (1) now you have a commander for your gaggle of custom Utupah Clone Troopers and (2) the visor on Commander Cody's head is removable so you can display him in a different way. The back is designed to mirror the gear that Commander Cody sports during the film.

Sideswipe Custom Transformers Universe Generation 1 Figure by puichun721

puichun721, a customizer based out of Hong Kong, has captured the Generation 1 feel of a classic Autobot with his Custom Transformers Universe Sideswipe figure. He has captured the cartoon feel of the figure and has done a great job with the fine details of the figure. For example, he has added a shoulder mounted canon, which will remind you of the 1980's version. He has also reworked and sculpted the head which pays a very nice homage to the classic version. The paint is very well done and is in a nice deep fire engine red. The Autobot symbol and the air intakes on top of the car add a nice touch to the figure.

Custom Lego Halo Master Chief Minifig and Needler Gun by Brickarms

Brickarm has created a Custom Lego HALO-inspired Master Chief minifig with a needler-like weapon found in the Halo video game series. This minifig is ready to take on the Covenant with his SMG Rifle and custom cast Needler gun. The great thing about the Needler is that, since it was custom cast, it does have paint, which means it can be handled without worrying about it. Optimus Prime Custom Transformers Star Wars Crossover G1 Figure by Sonray Customs

Sonray Customs has found a great use for the Star Wars Transformers figures with his Custom Optimus Prime G1 'pre earth' figure. What a great idea to take a Star Wars Transformers Commander Cody and turn it into a G1 legend, Optimus Prime. I like Sonray's take on this figure as it pays a nice homage to Optimus Prime's earth likeness and what he may have looked like rolling down the streets of Cybertron. The G1 colors are great and the pin striping on the sides and the silver pipes gives this figure a very distinct and familiar. Sonray describes more about how he made this great figure:

"Basically I saw this awful SWTF toy in a store and saw that despite all its design flaws it had some potential to make a pretty good looking, pre-earth G1 Optimus Prime. So i took it home and painted him up with high quality acrylics and enamels in a pure G1 style, added a Movie voyager Prime head, and attached on some old 20th Anni' prime smokestacks i had saved.This is a great looking custom and very unique. Its fully poseable as you can tell by the pictures, and the paint is very durable."

skribbel24 possesses the unique ability to capture the likeness of people. As a customizer, that is a very important trait. He has demonstrated this over and over again and this week he brings us his Custom WWE The Rock figure. Capturing human expression and emotion in a piece of plastic is very difficult to do (so difficult the major toy companies often have issues recreating the likeness of people accurately). For example, skribbel24 has captured the quirky facial expression of The Rock and has crafted the face so well that it is almost a dead on representation of him. The tattoos also add that extra touch and very well executed. This is a 2 in 1 figure, meaning that you can change the look from wrestler in the ring to the more casual 'Just Bring It' outfit. This is a great feature in this custom as you can change the look depending on your mood and it adds some versatility to your custom display. Overall, this is one of the best versions of The Rock I have seen to date.

Atlas Custom Marvel Legends 12 Inch Figure by Meltdown

Meltdown Customs pays a nice homage to the comic likeness of Atlas with his Custom Marvel Legends Atlas figure. I really like the colors in this figure with the yellow and dark red contrast. The blackwashing really brings out the detail and the sculpting is nicely executed. The 'A' is nicely proportioned on the chest and the molding around the face compliments it very well. This figure is a 12" tall so I included a picture from Meltdown's listing just for scale purposes.

Jazz Custom Transformers Movie Figure by Sabrina Ng

Sabrina Ng is new to customizing but you would not know it from looking at her Custom Movie Tranformers Jazz figure. It is great to see emerging talent in the customizing world, especially with Transformers. With the Transformers 2, Revenge of the Fallen due out in 2009, I am expecting high quality and unique work from the customizers out there. What struck me about this figure is the rich silver color that she was able to create and the finish on the figure is one to behold. The detailing on the circuitry in robot mode is a very nice touch as well, which was lacking in much of the original toys produced by Hasbro. I will be keeping an eye on this up and coming customizer as she already possesses the skills to deliver what fans want and need! Here she is to explain more about her Custom Jazz:

"Tried to give him a more accurate colour scheme faithful to the movies. Buffed, polished and waxed to get a very smooth finish. Managed to get some weathering in as well in certain parts of the body. Also, rest assured that all the pictures taken are not doctored or edited in any way to give it a more than accurate representation."

Custom Joker with Thug Movie Masters Dark Knight Batman Figure by NTT

NTT has a real treat in store for Batman fans with his Custom Joker in the look of Gary Oldman. This figure is very unique and I really like the creative thinking that made this figure come to light. If you remember characters that Gary Oldman has played (Sirius Black in the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban movie), he played a very convincing crazy person, perfect for the role of the Joker. The hair on this figure really captures Gary's look and the detailing on the suit pay a nice homage to the Joker! Here is NTT with more information about this great figure:

"This figure stands 7 inches tall and features multiple points of articulation (including head, arms, wrists, and torso). Parts of this custom was sculpted with Aves apoxie (very durable) and completely hand painted in acrylics. Wanted to make a movie Joker with Gary Oldman's face instead of Heath Ledger's! Fans of Gary Oldman will no doubt remember his roles as psychopaths, and he would surely have done justice to the Joker character! At least it works in figure form! Nemesis Prime Allspark Transformers Animated Figure by Encline Designs

Encline Designs crosses two Transformers wolds together with his Custom Allspark Nemesis Prime Transformers Animated figure. The love the harsh steel look of this figure (when the lights are on) as it makes a stark contrast when darkness succumbs Prime and you see him in his Allspark glory. What a fantastic idea and executed well. Encline Designs did not over do the Allspark aspect as I could imagine someone running wild with the glow in the dark aps. The lights add great dimension to the figure and this would be something you want to sit and stare at with the lights out. Here is how Prime was made and the story behind him from the source:

How Prime was Made

He was dismantled and rebuilt. First you will notice I ran four red LEDs though the chest cavity with an on/off switch and battery pack on the back. It has a removable cap to replace the batteries. I removed the blue glass and replace it with clear acrylic sheets sprayed with transparent red. While apart, I airbrushed the whole figure with Flat Black enamel. I always liked purple on this guy, so, I put a simple metallic purple stripe on him. The paint is great, but no need to let Chuck Norris fight with it!! Then, I panel lined with GLOW IN THE DARK paint, and airbrushed glow in the dark ALLSPARK energy markings on him. I figured Nemesis Prime needs to have weapons like Prime, but a lot more menacing. So he has a new axe, the regular axe, a new arm grapple with blades, and not to mention the Chrome removable smoke stacks/rotating arm cannons. Also, look under the face mask!

The Story Behind the Figure

I thought it would be cool if the new C.E.O. of Sumdac Ind. wanted to create a bot to get rid of ALL transformers. While a rouge psychotic Transformer with the ability to scan other Transformers and gain there powers is heading to earth, from the future to scan Optimus Prime because he has become the greatest warrior, and next thing you know, he crosses paths with allspark and Sumdac Ind. to become the greatest threat to ALL TRANSFORMERS. So, there you go, you can complete the story when you add this to your collection.

Guiltar Custom Transformers Animated Fusion of Megatron and Optimus Prime Generation 1 Figure by Jin Saotome

Adding some spice to Transformers Animated line, Jin Saotome cooks up this bizarre fusion of Optimus Prime and Megatron known in the Generation 1 world as Guiltar. Oh yes, don't forget to add a pinch of ghost spark from Starscream and you get a pretty cool figure that I will gaurantee will never see the light of day in the Animated line. The molds of Optimus Prime and Megatron were perfect for this creation. When I first looked at this figure, I thought Jin had made two heads for it but when I read more about it, he actually created a movable faceplate that you can operate via a level to show a more rabid look to the figure. Boskoestoys have outdone themselves once again and paid a really nice homage to a 1980's legends with their Custom Transformers Generation 1 Shockwave figure. Made from a Transformers Classics Megatron, Boskoestoys has taken that mold to the next level. The head sculpt is great and really captures Shockwave's G1 look. Another aspect that captures the Generation 1 feel is the color as Boskoestoys was able to replicate a very close match to the original scheme with the nice addition of color variation. Shockwave come jammed packed with some really cool accessories, some which may surprise you! For example, Shockwave comes with a cool Lightsaber (yes you read that correctly), an Energon Axe, 7 different left hand attachments (fit in and out on a sturdy bionical type plug system, attachment port flips out of left forarm, and back in for transformation), a lightning rod, and the large base.

Custom Venom Spawn Statue by NTT

NTT has something completely different in store for his fans! He took two popular comic characters and as he said "put them in a blender" and out came his Custom Venom Spawn statue. I take it the blender is his imagination but when you look at the figure, Venom and Spawn are in a Tango for the upper hand. Capturing the essence of Venom and Spawn in a battle, NTT has gone above and beyond creating this masterpiece. I love the way the arms protrude from the statue, giving it a feel of dire struggle. He must have used every sculpting trick in the book and if you read his write up on his page on FigureRealm, it sure looked like it. Here is an exerp from NTT on how he sculpted this great piece:

"This custom had its share of difficulties, like trying to balance the arms to look animated but still be able to fit together well on top of the Spawn figure without looking lopsided. But the hardest part was trying to attach one of the fangs around Spawn's mouth. All the other teeth (toothpick tips) glued on without a fight but for some reason, the 4th fang from the left, just wouldn't adhere and kept falling off!"

Bionic Commando Capcom Marvel Legends Custom Figure by Jin Saotome

To ring in the upcoming launch of the new Capcom game, Bionic Commando, Jin has diligently replicated one of the coolest video game figures in Marvel Legends style with his Custom Bionic Commando figure. There are a few aspects about this custom that make this outstanding! First, Jin was able to sculpt the hair and facial features in a very realistic way, which is a tough thing to pull off on a plastic toy. Second, the way the bionic appendages flow into the body looks like these were surgically implanted into the figure. He has achieved an awesome bionic look and feel with the way the machinery is sculpted and painted. The flexible piping and cords add to that realism and also give the figure the ability to aim in any direction you like. I threw in a reference picture from game as a comparison:

Shinbitron is not afraid to take on a challenge and he proves this week after week, especially with his latest Custom Headmaster Transformers Generation 1 Mindwipe and Vorath figures. He always find some really cool base figures to work from and the end result is always a unique and quality piece. This time, he has chosen to take on Mindwipe with his little buddy Vorath so you are getting 2 for 1 with this one. This figure resembles a huge bat and also the G1 version of Mindwipe in robot mode. "So I decided to take a stab at another one of the lovely Headmasters this time a Decep. I chose Mindwipe cause he was a cool Vampire bat that could control your mind! NTT gets back to classic roots with his Custom Classic Iron Man figure. Taking on the look as Iron Man appeared in the comics, NTT does an excellent job with this rendition. The blackwashing is a technique that I really like and it goes well with this figure, bringing out every detail. NTT describes a little more about his creation:

Batmobile Custom Transformers Animated Batman Crossover Figure by Shinobitron

What do you get when you cross DC Comics and the Transformers Animated series together? You get one kickass Custom Transformers Animated Batmobile crossover figure from Shinobitron. When I first saw the Transformers Animated Lockdown figure, which this custom is based off of, I thought to myself that this looked very much like a vehicle that was zooming around Gotham city. Sure enough, Shinobitron has executed this crossover very nicely. The black paint aps and the colors fit nicely with the color scheme of the Transformers Animated series and the choice of the figure was spot on as Lockdown provided so much to work with. The addition of the Bat symbol on the chest is a nice homage to Batman and I like the fact that this figure does not have any autobot or decepticon symbols on it. It is a true crossover figure that can fit in both the Transformers and the Batman Universe. The addition of the soft goods is a nice touch and, in robot mode, the figure takes on the persona of Batman with the cape. Overall, very well executed!

Jin Saotome boldly goes where no customizers dare to go! He picks up where the toy companies leave off and that is evident with his latest creation: Custom Marvel Legends Hemingway figure. As you can see below, Jin used the original character art from ToyBiz and he did an amazing job! What I love about Jin's customs is that he makes interchangeable parts to achieve the look and feel that he wants. For example, the photo below show the Hemingway figure with a club hand and Jin also made a regular hand. Straight from the pages of the X-Men Marvel Comics comes the collectablekid's version of X-Men character Nate Grey in Marvel Legends Styles. One of the great things about the collectablekid's customs is that he is an excellent sculptor so you know that his heart and soul is poured into every custom he creates. A few notable points about his Nate Grey are the flames surrounding his hands, the detailing on his suit, and his head (which pretty much covers everything but I will go into a bit more detail). First, the flames on his hands are very well done and actually look like fire. The fire almost takes on a persona of its own and the colors are very life-like. Second, the way the body suit was painted and sculpted gives the appearance of an actual piece of clothing. Finally, the aspects I will point out on the head are the eyes and eyebrows. The way that these are designed brings much life into the figure and the raised eyebrow is a very nice touch that gives the figure personality. It is this attention to detail that makes the collectablekid's customs priceless. The hair is also an aspect that looks lifelike and is sculpted in a way that feels like the hair is flowing.

Straight from the pages of Marvel Comics, Meltdown Customs brings us his version of the Living Laser, Marvel Legends style. The sculpting on this figure really brings out the comic likeness in the figure. The head, hands and the boots are my favorite part of this custom. The ridges on the head are perfectly spaced and the way the hands and boots were designed, it pays a really nice homage to the comic representation of the Living Laser. The color choice is spot on and the flesh tone blends nicely with the figure.

The Living Laser is a bodiless quantity of photons (particles of light) possessing human consciousness. A couple articles ago, I was reviewing a Custom Animated Starscream and I said that I was not a huge fan of the Animated Series but the figures have really grown on me. I actually picked one up and held it for the first time on Father's Day and I actually really like most of the figures. I ended up buying Starscream, Megatron, and Bumblebee but if I had come across a Grimlock, I would have bought that one too, which brings me to the topic at hand. encline598 has done a spectacular job with his Custom Animated Transformers Grimlock figure. The figure, in many ways, pays a nice homage to the Generation 1 Grimlock figure with its simple silver and gold paint aps and new head round bring out the feel of the 1980's figure but with an updated look. I was not too impressed with the original paint scheme that Hasbro chose but I am glad that encline598 has gone back to the basics and really made a great looking figure. The hammered silver look blends nicely with the overall look of the figure and it will fit right in with the other Animated Transformers, which is very important because you would not want mismatch in paint style to make the figure look out of place.

Custom Marvel Legends Ironman 1990 Style by Michael Amore

Many of the Ironman customs I see are based off of the 2008 Ironman Movie but Michael Amore chose to go the classic route with his Custom Marvel Legends Ironman done in the 1990's body armor style. Michael is an excellent sculptor, and it shows with this Ironman. The eyes and mouth really set the tone for the figure and are just the right size and shape but if there were any variations to the facial features, that would give Ironman a very different look. The armor is nicely proportioned The figure has a nice gloss to it, as if it was real armor. The paint aps mirror the look of the comic and the yellows and reds are spot on, which also blend nicely with the articulation points in the figure. The leg articulation flows nicely from upper thigh to lower leg and the biceps into the shoulders meld nicely. This Ironman is an all around great figure and would make a very nice addition to anyone's Ironman collection, especially for you completest's out there you need every version ever made!

Devastator Custom Transformers Generation 1 Combiner Figure by frenzy.rumble Part 1

When frenzy.rumble tackles a Transformers project, he goes BIG! Take a look at his latest creation, a 16" Custom Transformers Devastator Combiner figure. I really like frenzy.rumble's artistic liberties he has taken with this behemoth as I think it is a vast improvement to the original Devastator while still retaining the classic Generation 1 styling we all know and love. First off, you may notice the absence of a pretty dominant color purple that was the focal point of the 1980's classic. He has gone with a metallic look where there used to be purple and I think that adds very much to the look and feel of the figure. You can tell that this combiner has been painstakingly painted (as you can read below) as frenzy.rumble has achieved a nice Constructicon hue. frenzy.rumble goes into a bit more detail on how he created his masterpiece:

"Devastator is a combiner! This means he is 6 individual Constructicons that transform into construction vehicles, which combine into 1 gigantic Decepticon. In the slideshow below, you can scroll through the various pictures of each of these Constructicons, please note; there are 3 pages of slides. But if these aren't enough, to see many more pictures (including how this masterpiece was created) search "frenzyrumble" on Google. (It should be the 1st result returned)There are over 30 points of articulation on Devastator.... his head is on a ball joint, waist slightly rotates, shoulders move in and out, arms have 360 rotation front/back ways, elbows bend, forearms rotate in and out, all fingers (minus thumbs) have 3 points each, leg/hip moves outwards and back, knees bend, lower legs rotate outward/inwards, feet pivot on ankle (Mixmaster only.) Custom Star Wars Mustafar Diorama Darth Vader Rescue Scene by l.designs

l.dedsigns has recreated one of the most gut wrenching scenes from the Star Wars Revenge of the Sith movie with his Custom Mustafar Rescue Diorama. The cool (well, molten hot) feature of this dio is that l.designs has made the lava look very realistic. It takes talent and skill to make molton lava appear how it does in nature, and combine that with a Kentucky Fried Anakin and you have a recipe for a great looking Star Wars scene. The mountain side also blends nicely with the lava and the Shock Troopers are posed very nicely, as to say, "Man...I would not want to be that guy!" Here is more about how l.designs created this dio:

"This is a great custom built scene with some really unique features. The lava flow at the bottom you see there looks great on its own, as it reflects the ambient light of the room and looks as if it is generating its own light. This is accomplished by using a hollowed out section below with reflective material, then on top you have a sculpted out thick piece of acrylic. The effect here is that of some nice glowing lava. If that isn't enough for you, simply reach around to the back and flip on the switch that activates the LED light inside to give even more effect. You get all you see here, Clones, Palpatine, and even a nice crispy Anakin still roasting at the lava's edge there.

PowerGlide Custom G1 Transformers Animated Figure by Jin Saotome

Now that the Transformers Animated figures are out in full force at retail, we are seeing more and more customs week after week. Using a perfect base figure from the new Animated Series, Jin Saotome has given the Lugnut figure a face lift and turned it into one of the coolest minibots with his Custom Powerglide Transformers Generation 1 Animated figure. Although this figure is far from mini, standing at 7" tall, Jin pays a nice homage to the little red plane known as Powerglide by closely matching the distinct rich red color that the original minibot was painted and also keeping the light gray accents. In the original figure from the 1980's, the head was cone shaped as the figure did not have much articulation or hiding places for transforming parts so I like the fact that Jin did not try mimic this aspect and give this Powerglide a pointy melon and kept true to the facial features with a new head sculpt. Jin has many talents but one that I really appreciate is he is not afraid to give figures new heads (and sometimes he gives them two) to keep in line with the original designs.

Michael Amore has two awesome customs rolled into one auction this week with his Custom Marvel Legends Black Knight and Namor, the Sub Mariner, figures. I first wrote about Michael's Namor figure back in May and what struck me about that custom was how accurate the flesh tones were. He is continuing to add depth to his current Black Knight figure by doing what he does best, focusing on the tones and delivering an awesome custom! For example, Michael has created a very realistic looking chain mail on this figure, which is a type of armour or that consists of small metal rings linked together in a pattern to form a mesh. Mail armour provided a highly effective defense against the weapons of the Medieval Period. The sculpting is always semetrical and the colors compliment each other nicely.

Custom Transformers Movie Optimus Prime Leader Class Figure by CREG Customs

In the most anticipated movie of 2007, CREG Customs' recreates the Transformers Movie version of Optimus Prime in the most detailed, realistic custom I have seen to date. Through advances in CGI, Optimus Prime was able to exhibit emotion in the movie with various facial and mechanical expressions. To achieve emotion, the eyes and mouth are typically manipulated so that human emotions are mimicked, giving Optimus a persona that the 1980's cartoon could never achieve. That is one thing to capture that emotion for a multi million dollar movie but it is equally as difficult to capture feelings through sculpting a toy. Not only does this figure have amazing detail, CREG captures the raw emotions of Optimus with two types of custom heads: one with a mouth guard and one without. The head without the guard, really does a great job at capturing various looks of Optimus and, depending what angle you look at him, the figure will appear to exibit different emotions.

Custom Stealth Starscream Transformers Movie Generation One Figure by Chih

A stealth aircraft is an one that uses stealth technology to make it difficult to be detected by radar by employing a combination of features to reduce visibility in the visual, audio, infrared and radio frequency spectrum. Well known examples include the United States' F-117 Nighthawk and the modern F-22 Raptor fighter, which was the vehicle mode of choice for Starscream in the 2007 Transformer Movie. Attention to detail was not spared when corycastle13 crafted this Custom Cobra Jungle HISS. This HISS comes packed with ammo and can carry an army of Cobra soldiers into battle that you could almost call this an APC. It is fitting that I am reviewing a GI Joe vehicle on the 64th Anniversary of the landing of allied forces on the beaches of Normandy during WWII, more commonly referred to as D-Day,because this HISS tank reminds me of aspects that I have seen on WWII tanks and armory. For example, some aspects of this HISS remind of the US built M2A1 Half Track crossed with a Nebelwerfer, a World War II German towed rocket artillery launcher, developed in the 1930s and used against ground targets. The .50 caliber machine guns mounted on the front give the HISS a menacing look that can do real damage. As seen in the photo below, the guns and ammo have their place and the packs mounted to the side of the HISS give it a war torn feel that soldiers live in. This is one of the best crafted Custom HISS I have come across to date!

Starscream Custom Transformers Animated Series G1 Style Figure by Crefigz

Crefigz pays homage to the Generation 1 Starscream of yesteryear with his Custom Generation 1 Transformers Animated Starscream figure. First off, the base figure that Crefigz had to work with is stellar. I am not a huge fan of the Animated Series but some of the figures they made are really nice but it suffered from a lackluster paint scheme, which Cregfigz has more than made up for. Not only is this figure a Generation 1 throwback, the way it was painted makes it look like it could fit into the animated series today. You know you have come across some talent when a customizer can take a figure and make it fit into the current scheme of the series. The toning on this Starscream is down right amazing, giving it the cartoon feeling. The texture of this figure is also something to note as the toning has been done so smoothly that it looks like a factory job. All things considered, I think this may be one of the best looking Generation 1 repaints I have seen thus far.

Much in the spirit of his G1 counterpart, Starscream is a sarcastic, treacherous and two-faced usurper, who desires to be the leader of the Decepticons by overthrowing Megatron. However, his attempt ultimately backfired. As with all previous incarnations of the character, he transforms into a fighter jet, armed with his signature null-rays.

Chih is heating up the Transformers category with his Custom Megatron Transformers Movie figure. I don't know if this is a coincidence or not but I have seen a decrease in Transformers customs with the introduction of the Premium Series Transformers. I must say, the Premium Series is a slight improvement to the figure line but they do not hold a candle to the talent, craftsmanship, and artistic ability of the customizers out there and Chih ranks very high on my list of people that consitantly create quality pieces for the fans out there.

For toy companies, it would seem like a simple task: Create a figure that comes close to their movie likeness. I guess that was what they were trying to achieve with the Premium Series line but they have to realize that they need to up the quality of the figures if they are to compete. Fans are growing tired of repaints and poor quality figures and that is where customizers fill the gap. Chih's Custom Megatron is a great example of Megatron was supposed to look. A very nice silver with bronze accents gives this figure that war torn battled look that the original toys were lacking. I thought that I had no use for it. Then all of sudden, there is a little voice that says.....it could be customized rather than throwing it away. Then I found a head for him, so here you have it. He was hand painted multiple times with the glossy blue to depict his armor. His head was modified so that he could look up more than the original. The helmet is detachable; I personally love when he takes off his helmet (mask) as it looks like one of the statue. He also comes with his blaster blue fire when he's taking off (they are detachable). All of his sounds are working perfectly as he's taking off."

CREG has taken a different angle on the Iron Man customs with his version of Tony Stark depicting the "Yeah, I can fly" test sequence from the movie. This custom, with the amount of detailing and sculpting, far exceeds most Iron Man customs on eBay. What sets this custom apart from the others is that it is not a straight up Iron Man custom and the sculpting of the various parts flows nicely together. For example, the machinery on the arms flows up the biceps, giving the illusion that the figure is wearing the apparatus. The paint aps are nicely executed on the figure and compliment the depth and detail of the sculpting.

The custom transformers section on eBay has been a bit quiet but Jin has woken it up with his Custom Transformers Movie Barricade figure. Some of the things I really like about about Jin's customs are his quest to make it accurate, his attention to detail, and the quality and craftsmanship is light years beyond most. For example, in this Barricade figure, he has added a ball joint to the head, claws, and an LED kit so that the police lights work. My favorite part about this custom are the claws. I know it is a really small detail to be excited about but the original hands on the Barricade figure bugged me (well, most of the figure bugged me as it was not very movie accurate to begin with).

The wing have an aerodynamic flair to them with the flat pieces in the middle of craft. The cockpit is very different as it protrudes from the front but it still retains the classic imperial look and feel of all of the classic Star Wars vehicles. This is why I made this website! "Here we have a custom tie fighter for the 3 3/4 scale. The tie fighter has been painted and weathered to give it a "battle worn" look. Acrylic model paints were used with a finishing dull coat. The entry/exit hatch is one piece. The custom tie pilot is also included. He is articulate only at the neck, shoulders, waist and upper thighs (again made from figs of the potf2 line). His blastech e-11 is included but not shown in the pix. The 4 round torpedo magazine below the canopy can be removed if desired. The flaps on the magazine open and close. The stand is also included. One of the aspects about this custom that makes this unique is the custom flesh tone and the sculpting on this figure. The speedo is even hand sculpted and Michael rounds it out with a trademark N. Another great aspect of this custom is that Michael is able to capture the human element in action figure form. The way the muscles flow, especially from the neck down, makes this custom truly realistic, an aspect that is extremely difficult to capture in a figure but there are a few who can pull it off and Michael is one of them. Since there are so many great customs out there to write about, I can't possibly cover everything so sometimes I will troll around in the Completed Listings section of eBay and come across some gems that I missed. Jin Saotome has created a blast from the past with an updated version of an International figure with this Custom GI Joe 25th Anniversary Red Laser figure. Jin has made a really nice addition to this figure with the wrist gauntlet/backpack and weapon. The addition of the helmet logo pays great homage to the original Red Laser figure. For those not familiar with International GI Joe's, Red Laser was an exclusive figure that was available in the United Kingdom and Europe around 1983 by the Palitoy toy company. He was available packaged with the Action Force Laser Exterminator - a red and black repaint of the HAL (Heavy Artillery Laser).

The apsects that I love about boskoestoys is that they are not afraid to take some liberties their customs and really make them their own and unique. boskoestoys tells us more about this awesome Iron Man figure:

As a kid, I used to have all out battles between GI Joe and Cobra and Scrap Iron played a huge part in destroying some strategic Joe bunkers and command centers. I grew up with the 3 3/4" Joes and Scrap Iron performed his magic with his rocket launchers behind the Cobra Bunker and caused massive devastation (not to mention the large mess I had to clean up before I went to bed but we won't go there!). Shinobintron takes on Scrap Iron in Sigma Six form and he does an excellent job capturing the colors and style of this classic Cobra figure. One aspect that I like about this figure is the way the helmet wraps around the head to give him maximum protection against a Joe onslaught. I like when customizers take some liberties and go out on a limb and I feel that the absence of the signature rocket launcher deserves some mention here but Shinobitron makes up for this with a big ass machine gun that looks like it can do some serious damage.

Dubbed the Command Oriented Military Battle Android Trooper and keenly acronym'd C.O.M.B.A.T., Jin Saotome once again displays his mad customizing skills and gives GI Joe a much need troop enhancement. The Cobra B.A.T. (Battle Android Trooper) was one my favorites to play with as a kid and as an adult it still remains a mainstay in my Cobra Army. The head sculpt is my favorite part of this custom and I love the tubes that go from the head to the back as it reveals a vulnerable point in the droid. The B.A.T. is the only troop that "dies" in the GI Joe cartoons so I can imagine this C.O.M.B.A.T. figure's getting it's tubes severed in battle and rendered useless. Jin goes on to explain more about his figure:

Central Cali Customs has outdone themselves with his Custom Marvel Legends Stealth Iron Man figure. This Sideshow'esque figure is comes packed with articulation and a custom base that looks like Iron Man has unleashed hell on it. Central Cali Customs explains more about how he made this work of art:

Researching, the best suitable Action Figure to transform. For example: According to Cable's bio, he is 6ft 8in and 350 lbs. So, I would not use a HULK’s body because he is 1,000 lbs.
Once you find all parts, then you Assemble and Sculpt
This part is very fun……I used Apoxie Sculpt for a strong finish.
Prime the whole body.
Paint major parts with correct color accordingly. I do multiple paint 3 to 4 times. I used Testors Model Master Acrylic Flat (unless it's an armor steel character) color paints. These paints are non-toxic and lead free.
Wash with darker color to imitate shadow (Where needed).
Dry brush with lighter color to imitate highlights (Where needed).
Then detailing such as lines, logos, etc.
Last and not least, depending on what kind of finish I would like to achieve, I will coat my figure. If I want to get flat comics like finish, then I coat it with dullcoat. If I want to get armor stell finish, then I coat it with glossy coat.

This is a huge improvement from the original Hasbro release and Shinobitron has really captured Ravage's classic look as he kept the paint aps simple with black and silver. I liked the way he removed the ball attached to his tail and the placement of the Decepticon symbols was also a great choice, which brings me to my next point. Ironhide Custom Transformers Movie Voyager Class Figure by Crefigz

Crefigz gives a slick look that is movie accurate with his Custom Transformers Ironhide figure. What is really great about this figure is that it (1) looks very much like the Movie version and (2) the metal detailing looks very realistic. Here is a close up:

My favorite aspects of Crefigz' Ironhide is that the truck mode and robot mode compliment each other very well. With some other customs I have seen, too much effort was spent on making the robot mode look great but when it is transformed back into truck mode, something just does not look right. Form meets function with 2dtoys Custom Marvel Legends Firefly figure. This is one of the best Firefly's I have seen in a long time. Every aspect of this figure reminds me of the classic 3 3/4" figure from the GI Joe cartoon. No detail was spared and I especially like how 2dtoy's did the weapons and gear on this one. Shinobitron is one of the most talented Transformers customizers I have met thus far. He also makes customs for Marvel Legends, Video Games, and GI Joe but I am drawn his work with the Transformers. If you are looking for a one of a kind custom to proudly display on your shelf next to the originals, you need to check out his work! AFC: Tell the fans of your work a little about yourself.

Shinobitron: My real name is Justin and I currently reside in north western Pennsylvania. I'm 28 years old and work in a stock room for the Pittsburgh Steelers when I'm not making customs. I'm big into Anime and classic 80s toons. Not only do I customize figures I also make costumes. I've been Cobra Commander, Storm Shadow, the Hobgoblin, and Soundwave! Soundwave could actually transform and the chest opened to reveal a cassette that also changed into Lazerbeak. LB had magnets in his feet that let him attach to my wrist!

My artist name comes from 2 things 1) Shinobi, one of my favorite video games of all time. Not only that but the remake for the PS2 had Hotsuma, the main character, in one awesome looking uniform. 2) Tron, not for the old movie but as in Megatron. I've always like the bad guys more. AFC: When did you start making customs?

Shinobitron: I started making them in 1999. This all started with my love for Resident Evil. I bought the entire set of figures from Toybiz and was mad no Wesker figure was made. I used a Toybiz Johnny Blaze and remade him into Wesker. That's when this all started I then took it into Gundams, Various models kits, and random figures for practice. I got the heaviest into it however when the Marvel Legends released and have been very steady ever since.

AFC: How many customs do you work on at one time?

Shinobitron: For the most part I try to keep all my focus on one figure at a time. This lets me give all my attention to one item and let me give one figure my all. I do however base coat figures that up for painting while working on another figure. This let any sculpty or glues I have on my main project harden and keeps me from sitting idle. (I do cave and treat myself to some PS2 or PC games in between phases though)

AFC: What is your favorite toy line to do customs for?

Shinobitron: I have to go with Transformers on this one. First of all each piece can end up being super easy or one heck of a challenge. After you finish one of the pieces you get a great sense of accomplishment, knowing that you made not one but two toys in one project. You got a badass looking robot and a sleek vehicle that looks equally badass.

Another reason I like TFs is the fans reaction. TF has a diehard fan base that love their bots. When you sell a figure to a person and he/she says that your piece is proudly displayed in their collection for everyone they know to see it give you a great sense of pride.

AFC: What is the custom you are most proud of?

Shinobitron: That's a tough question. I would have to say a very rough tie between my Darkstalkers, Ghost in the Shell, Galvatron, and Hotsuma figures. These piece have a special place for me as they are major display pieces on my shelves.

AFC: What customs do you have lined up for your next ones?

Shinobitron: My minds always working on what to make up next. I'm a real spur of the moment kind of person and even though I set myself a list of figure to make I usually end up doing something else cause I just got a great base fig I "have" to use right then and there. Heres a tenative list: Goldbug, Movie Beachcomber, Hoist, SHS Venture Bros figures, Animated Deadpool, Female Junkions, gears, The entire Cowboy Bebop cast, Bludgeon, Anime X-Men, 8" Master Cheif, Hellsing characters, G2 Grimlock, and more Sigma 6 Cobra members.
Believe me there so many I can't even remember them all.

AFC: If you had one piece of advice for other customizers out there, what would you say to them?

Shinobitron: Practice, Practice, practice. I know that Jin says this but its the truth. Never be afraid to use new techniques, screw things up or break things. Doing this is sometimes the best way to learn. Try new items, new paints, and new parts. Just remember to have fun doing it and never give up.

Custom Sith Lord Darth Plagueis Star Wars Figure by Mastercloner

Mastercloner brings us his interpretation of the mysterious Darth Plagueis the wise! This is an excellent piece and it gives a face to this icon in the Star Wars universe. Mastercloner gives us more information about this illusive dark lord of the Sith:

"Darth Plagueis was a Sith Lord who, according to legend, had discovered a way to manipulate midi-chlorians to prevent death and create life. However, his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Although it is never officially stated in the cinematic release of Revenge of the Sith that Plagueis was Darth Sidious' master, the official Star Wars Databank characterizes him as such. This information is included in the film's novelization, in which Sidious says, "Darth Plagueis was my master... before I killed him." It is also mentioned in the Star Wars novels Labyrinth of Evil and Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader. "The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise", as related by Palpatine, is the only example of in-universe literature contained within the six Star Wars films."

Snake Eyes Custom GI Joe 25th Anniversary Arashikage Ninja Training Figure by currentcomics1

Straight from the pages of the GI Joe Comics comes currentcomics1's Custom Snake Eyes Arashikage Ninja Training figure. The 25th Anniversary GI Joe line has provided customizers with a fresh canvas to work from and I am seeing some great customs. The sculpting on this figure is superb and no detail was spared making this version nearly identical to the comics. A couple points to take note are the addition of the sleeves on the figure which flow very naturally from the arms and the 'dog ears' on the top of the hood. In currentcomics1's auction, he gives us a rundown of how he made this great custom:

"I used a base figure (Legion Storm Shadow) from the 25th Anniversary G.I. Joe line made by Hasbro. The figure comes with 2 swords with painted Arashikage symbols. This is a character I made by sculpting around the eye area of the mask along with 2 lines as featured on Snake Eyes original 80's mask and as seen in the Declassified mini. I added sleeves to the figure and also added the 2 dog ears on top of the hood like the red ninja figure. I sculpted the back hand protectors and the harness around his shoulders to mimic the look in the Devils Due mini series. I repainted it using Citadel acrylic paints. I painted the eyebrows a blond (yellow) and the eyes blue to match Snake-eyes original look before the helicopter accident. The paint is fully dry and you may handle the figure. Be very careful since the paint might rub off between the joints. I did a lot of custom trimming using a Dremel tool between each joint to avoid paint rub or chipping between the joints; but you never know."

Custom Incinerator Transformers Movie Voyager Class Figure by Chih

Chih has gotten back to military basics with his Custom Transformers Incinerator figure. Although this vehicle appeared in the Transformers Movie, it was not a central part of the storyline nor did it actually transform into anything, I feel this figure is a nice addition to the Transformers Movie line. With respect to Chih's overall plan for this figure, it is spot on. I love the military grey and the Air Force decals really make this figure stand out. The copper accents are a great touch as they highlight the parts that are lost in the original release of the figure. Custom Transformers Stunticon Dragstrip G1 Figure by Shinobitron

Shinobitron has the knack of moulding and sculpting Transformers figures into Generation 1 classics. This week, he has created a far superior version of a Transformers Generation 1 Classic Dragstrip figure. Standing 6" tall, Dragstrip has many unique features that make this custom a cut above the rest. What I like about this custom is that Shinobitron has taken many liberties with the figure but retained the G1 style look to Dragstrip. The original figure had a purple gun that mounted on the spoiler but in Shinobitron's version, he has permanently mounted a silver blaster that is a great addition to the figure!
